Worry is a thief. It creeps into our thoughts, distracts us from what matters, and often makes things worse instead of better. Worry can feel like an endless circle, pulling us away from the peace and purpose God wants for us. When we let worry take over, it thwarts the good plans God has for our lives and keeps us from living in the hope of His kingdom.
Why Do We Worry?
Worry is fueled by uncertainty, fear, and dread about the future. We worry about things that might happen, or could go wrong, and sometimes these concerns can become obsessive. Worry doesn’t just affect our minds—it can impact our bodies, causing anxiety that we feel physically: racing hearts, tense muscles, restless nights. Worry is also contagious. When we’re surrounded by anxious people or constant negative news, our own worry can grow even more intense. What Does God Say About Worry?
The Bible reminds us again and again that worry does nothing to change our circumstances. Instead, God invites us to trust in His provision and care. Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33). When we put God first, we can rest in His promise to take care of us. God’s Word gives us hope that is bigger than our worry. When we remember who God is, invite Him into our anxious hearts, and spend time in His Word, He brings peace and transformation. Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:6: Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. How Can We Address Worry in Our Daily Lives?
Here are three practical ways you can let faith replace worry:- Reflect on God’s Goodness At the end of each day, pause and thank God for the ways He showed up for you. Practice gratitude by writing down what went well, even small things. As we look back at the end of a year, or even at the end of 2025, where did you see God’s faithfulness in your lives?
- Pray Honestly Talk with God about your worries. Prayer is simply a conversation with your loving Father who cares about every detail of your life. Bring your concerns to Him and ask for His peace.
- Read His Word Spend time reading the Bible. Let God’s truth fill your heart and mind. When we know His promises, we can face the future with courage instead of fear.
